John R. Herzig, CFSP

John is the president and third generation owner of Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. and partner with his wife, Joyce in the operation of the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.

A 1970 graduate of Dover High School, John received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ashland College (now Ashland University) in 1974 and honors graduate from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He was one of the first funeral directors in Ohio to earn the designation of CFSP from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice in 1976.

In addition to serving hundreds of families over the last 40 years, he has also been involved in numerous civic, community and church organizations. He is a lifelong member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover where he was a former council member and Treasurer. He currently serves as a Trustee of Union Hospital and member of the Quality Committee, Community Relations Committee and Development Committee. He serves on the board of directors of the Citizens Banks, President and member of the board of the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, boards of the Dover-Phila Food Pantry, Tuscarawas County AAA, Paul Harris member of the Dover Rotary Club and past president and member of the Strasburg Lions Club. In addition, he previously served as president of the board of Hospice of Tuscarawas County (now Community Hospice), American Cancer Society, and Tri County Funeral Directors Association, and was Past Exalted Ruler of the former Dover Elks Lodge and member of the New Philadelphia Elks, and former chairman and member of the United Way of Tuscarawas County and board of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce.

John enjoys boating at Atwood Lake and his ongoing collection (20 years) of famous funeral memorabilia has resulted in the development of the Famous Endings Museum ( a popular tourist attraction in Tuscarawas County).

John has been married to the former Joyce Dallau for over 40 years. The couple have three children, Trevor and Troy Herzig and Tricia (husband Joel) McKinnon all of Dover, seven grandchildren, Kylan, Alyssa, Ava and Alyvia Herzig and Jack, Stone, and Klaire McKinnon and a sister, Peggy (Rick) Holmes.

Joyce Herzig

Joyce (Dallau) Herzig is Director of the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. She coordinates all scheduling, staffing, and related details for all of the events that the center plays host to each year.

A 1971 graduate of Dover High School, Joyce is a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. She is a member Union Hospital Auxiliary, a trustee with the Ruth Carlson Starlight Foundation, Special Olympics, a past Vice-President and Trustee for TUSCARC (the parent group for Starlight School and Workshop) and a past board member and currently a passionate volunteer for the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.

She is married to Toland-Herzig president, John R. Herzig. She is the mother of Trevor J. Herzig, Troy Herzig, and Tricia (Joel) Herzig-McKinnon. Her family includes seven grandchildren; Kylan, Alyssa, Ava, and Alyvia Herzig and Jack, Stone McKinnon, and Klaire McKinnon.

Tricia Herzig-McKinnon

Tricia Herzig-McKinnon became a full time apprentice at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory upon graduating Cum Laude from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in March of 2005. Tricia is the fourth generation to join her family business as a fully licensed funeral director, embalmer and crematory operator. She completed her apprenticeship in March of 2006. Tricia was a 2003 graduate at Ashland University and a graduate in Dover High School's class of 1999.

Tricia is a proud, lifelong member of the community. She has become a familiar face while serving as a past secretary for Main Street New Philadelphia, a board member of the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, member of the 2005 Leadership Tuscarawas class. She is also a member and volunteer for the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, where she serves on the fundraising committee. Tricia has served as the "Toland-Herzig Team" captain to support the American Cancer Society's Relay for life for many years. She is a member of the Union Hospital Auxiliary and volunteers for the annual Warther's Christmas Tree Festival, which is one of her favorite community events. She is also the President of the Dover Education Foundation as well as the Board of Directors for the Ohio Funeral Directors Association District #16.

She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover and attends New Pointe Community Church in Dover.

Tricia married Joel McKinnon on December 27, 2003. Together they have three children; Jack, Stone, and Klaire McKinnon. The McKinnon family resides in Dover.

John is a 1986 graduate of Strasburg High School and four years later graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. John joined the staff at Toland-Herzig in October of 1994 where he is a Licensed Funeral Director and the Director of Pre-Planning for the funeral home and crematory.

Over the past 17 years, John has time and again been recognized as one of the nation's leading producers with Monumental and Homesteaders Life for his knowledge and expertise in the area of pre-planning.

He was the first licensed funeral director in Tuscarawas County to have earned the designation of Certified Pre-planning Consultant from the Funeral Service Foundation. Presently, John is president of the Tri-County Funeral Directors Association, is active as commissioner of the Strasburg Youth Baseball Association and serves as a youth baseball coach.

John and his wife Dawn have two sons, Joe and Steve, and reside in Strasburg.

Mark Wideman

Mark Wideman has worked in and around the funeral profession all of his life, beginning as a youth mowing the lawn and washing automobiles at his family's funeral home in North Canton. A licensed funeral director since 1983 and a caring, thoughtful professional, Mark joined the Toland-Herzig staff in 2002. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to work with him every day.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio University and graduated Cum Laude from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Prior to coming to work for Toland-Herzig, Mark served as Director of Funeral Service Operations for the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia, where he had been employed for ten years.

Mark is married to Elizabeth "Betsy" Wideman, a familiar, friendly face at the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union. The couple has resided in New Philadelphia since 1992. They have three dogs, Laszlo, Martin and Poppy.

He is a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and Elks Lodge, all of New Philadelphia. Mark also belongs to the National Funeral Directors, Ohio Funeral Directors, Ohio Embalmers and Tri-County Funeral Directors Associations.

Brenda Hayes

Brenda is the creative digital artist behind Toland-Herzig's amazing array of memorial products. She also oversees and coordinates all of the company advertising and promotional displays.

She is a graduate of Strasburg High School and also attended Kent State University. She currently resides in Dover. She is a Notary Public for the State of Ohio and a Licensed Life, Accident & Health Insurance agent. Hayes has been with Toland-Herzig since 1992.

Julie Fach

Office Manager

Julie has been with Toland-Herzig since the May of 2002, starting as a part-time associate, and is now office manager at Toland-Herzig's Dover location. In 2010 Julie became a registered Death Clerk for the state of Ohio.

Many grieving families have received a sample of her home baked cinnamon rolls provided for the morning of the service. Along with her domestic skills, Julie is a talented musician who has filled in on the spur-of-the-moment at funeral services.

She is an active member of the Hope Community Christian Church in New Philadelphia. Julie is the pianst for Hope, and is co-director of worship.

Julie and her husband Jeff reside in Dover. They have two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kohl, and Taylor and Nikole Fach
